    2001 a4 b5 quattro 1.8 turbo manual

I am having a very bad day.
My wife the battery down on the beloved B5 quattro (her everday car). The wife rang and got held up at work so I had to rush home and get the kids from school /clubs.
The car seats where in my wife car so i tried to bump it in reverse down a steep hill and I heard a loud bang.
When I came to recover it (after plan B getting kids in another car) it started fine but rattled in neutral. It will not move in reverse but seemed to get all the gears going forward.
I could cry as I have just spent weeks getting it perfect and sorting all the niggles out.

Any ideas? I just want to spit my dummy and scrap it now. I am fairly handy with cars but never done much with gearboxes other than swap them many moons ago before kids and when I had money, before I was married...
    Oh i remember it well.................

Any suggestions? Could not just be a nut fallen off gearbox inside that I could access fairly easily? I am assuming that reverse is at end of the cogs?

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

rattle goes away if i depress the clutch so that would point to clutch/flywheel? There is however movement in reverse. Just a rattle.

at a guess i would say its fubbared. you have probably broken the clutch plate and or broken reverse. either way i dont think it will be a 5 minute fix. box is easy enough to get out, 3 driveshafts and some mounts and bellhousing bolts, and a used box shouldnt be too hard to find.
