I was trying to activate the service position on the wipers on my 2005 A6 Avant.
It would nor activate whatever I did.
Now the front wipers wont work at all. When I set the service to on in the MMI it automatically reverts to off after one second.
    What have i done?

    Is your bonnet open?

Try locking and unlocking the car with the key.

    Oh you wonderful luverly person
It hadn't crossed my (panicking) mind about the bonnet! I thought I had cattle-trucked something big-time.
Wipers now in service position and I am about to attempt obtaining some washer fluid through them. Two blocked and two dribble.
    Many many thanks,
    Nick.

The question is though... why? Why did they program the central electrics to stop the wipers if the bonnet is open? It is like that other WHY? I have. Why do you have to put your foot on the brake pedal of an automatic to start the car?

is it a general setting to stop the wipers from fouling the bonnet, regardless if it does or not? and a risk mitigation to have your foot on the brake?
