Sounds like misalignment - my first set did the same and I took it up with the dealership. They would not do anything to compensate for the fact that the tyres were going to need changing with quite a bit of tread left because the edges were badly worn but they did offer a free quattro wheel alignment - but only once 'new' tyres were fitted (can't do the alignment with badly worn tyres). I think I got about 16k out of them. Don't have exact numbers as I had not tracked my swap over mileages for winters <-> summers until recently.
I do a lot of driving on rural roads and do use the available power. I definitely think mine wears rears faster than fronts (so I rotate every time I do the swap from summers<-> winters).
