Can't open the rear driver side door from the outside ,I can open it from inside but not out ,I've tried slamming it shut see if the cable falls into place but it's not happening ,so I'm going to try and put the cable back in by hand but finding it difficult ,so far I've taken the door card off but struggling to remove the door plate ,I removed the window motor and outer screws which fix the large plate to the door but can't see what else i need to do any ideas

Check that the Bowden cable ball end is in its clasp? The low temperature causes it to come out but just stay there when the lock's operated from the outside. There's an uprated Bowden cable available from VW spares. Attempts at spraying with WD40 won't completely fix as the Bowden cable gets stiff along its entire length leading to its ball-end coming out

I don't recognise your pix. But just remembered that I put together a help .doc with the URLs and other pix to do with driver's door including an exploded ETKA diagram. In case it ever happened to me. So PM me an email address for return attach. Hope it helps?

I'm sure this has been covered previously on here, right down to the last detail, but I'm not sure how best to search for it. Presumably you've tried?
