Gents: got a problem with my 2L Bre auto...... i was at about 80 for half an hour when i went to over take ,put my foot down and the rev counter shot upto 4500 revs but the engine seemed to die on me untill i slowed to nearly a halt, then it behaved again through the gears untill i have to over take again, at which point it did the same and practickly died ... any ideas on what the problem is plz

Get it to a specialist who can scan it for faults. What miles are on the car? Has it had the gear oil changed as per the service schedule?

VCDS won't show up a gearbox fault, you have 57 posts prior to this thread and I'll assume you've seen all of the threads related to multitronic gearboxes and that it's essential to have a fluid change every 38k miles.

Without these worst case is you will need a new gearbox (budget £3k) you may be lucky and get away with a fluid change...but it's doubtful as the horse may have already bolted

Ring your local main dealer tomorrow and they will be able to check if it's had a fluid change in the dealer network.

yeah basic service of gearbox, oil & oil filter, air filter & pollen filter with fuel filter a good place to start

then let the fault develop is the cheapest option
