Had a test drive in a 2015 Golf R yesterday with only 6000miles on the clock.
During the test the clutch started to slip.
    Obviously I didn't buy it.
A search of the internet shows this is more common than I expected!
    Any views.

Wouldn't it be a warranty job at that amount of miles?

We had to do one on an R with less than that a few months back, the car was only about 2 months old. It may have had something to do with the APR high torque remap... If you want an R, buy the DSG as it can cope with a remap. Sachs launched their stronger clutch last week, the one we did had a yank system the owner bought, it was a bit odd and felt strange but it worked.

One guy had only 4500 miles from new and Vw claimed wear and tear,1300 quid.
Some have had more than one clutch.

I have driven both and would defintley go for the auto but I am still not convinced the DQ250 is up to the job, I have heard reports through the APR network of DSG clutch judder with their high torque map. I think it should have had the DQ350/500 box used in the TTRS.

I suppose so but the costs and complication would be mind bowling. We had to fit a new clutch pack/DMF in a TTRS with a DQ350/500 recently and it is one bloody heavy box, it took four of us to lift it off/onto the box jack to/from the bench and back into the car but then again my spine is screwed so I just had a hand in there.
