I went to fill up last week and couldn't get the diesel nozzle in.
Stopped myself a minute to double check the car/fuel combo was right, or that i hadn't gone mental somehow.

I found this little metal plate has appeared over the top of the fuel filler pipe, just behind there the cap sits. A rough wiggle and it pivoted away and i filled up.

Its now back and stuck pretty firm. I can only slowly trickle fuel around the sides. For some reason attachment manager is rotating my photo.

What a mental defect, a car which of its own choosing stops me putting fuel in it!

I assume this is perhaps an anti-siphon plate normally moved away by the central locking which has in my case failed?

    Any ideas? A quick fix?

    Thanks

Is it not the misfueling device?

Is that not the anti syphoning device. Meant to stop people chucking a hose down the Filler and stealing your diesel.

If it's under warranty send it to the dealers.
If it's not I would be tempted to ram a screw driver in there. If it drops in the fuel tank it's too big to get sucked in the fuel system.
Another option is to call a recovery (aa, rac) next time you fill up and see if they have a fix.

    Interesting, thanks!
Reading this maybe it was just a really work or mis shaped fuel nozzle. It was a garage i don't often use and it looked pretty bashed.
I think i will try filling up again somewhere else and maybe there wont be a problem.

    Hope you get it sorted!

Mine did a similar thing but the "clicky" fuel flap locking clicker failed in the locked position.....back to Audi before I ran out of fuel. They said i was part of a bad batch of clickers and it had been a common fault.

Yep, fuel up today. New BP garage. No issues, metal plate disappeared as soon as the nozzle touch it, just like normal i guess. Must have simply been a worn out nozzle. PHEW!

    Thanks for the advice all!
