Tiptronic magnets?

My 2000 a8 doesn't go into tiptronic mode. Read up on it and it seems pretty common and I'd the result of one of the magnets which operated the hall sensors has fell off. I pulled the transmission tunnel apart to try and find the magnet but can't find anything, or even anything that looks like the magnet would attach to it. The shifter looks different to ones be seen online as well. I've taken pics but don't know how to upload them (I'm using my phone ATM might be obvious on the PC when I get home).

Would the 2000 tiptronic be different to others, theres no sport mode on it. Does anyone have a pic of what I'm looking for? I could pull one off the 2003 a6 if it's the same. Will try and post pics of what I've got when I get home.

You haven't lost anything worth having.

Tiptronic is so slow to react, it just causes frustration and doesn't give any performance advantage. To work it you need to select the change you want about a second before you need it, and hope that the gearbox approves your request. If it doesn't like your suggested gear, it will just ignore you, and if it feels a change is appropriate then it will change, regardless of what you are doing with the controls.

Just switch between Sport and Drive depending on whether you want performance or economy, and the car will do whatever is needed
