    So firstly I have just bought this vehicle and it is my first Diesel so I am not sure what sounds are normal and what are not.

    I am worries about two things that I can't explain.

    1- When I turn my car off there is a deflating/whining sound for 1-2 seconds and it looks to me as if it goes hand in hand with the speed/Rev dials, when dials are going down. when they hit 0 the sound stops.

    2- When car is idling, the car makes a mild noise every now and then something between Griding/rattles or Russtling noise.

    please let me know if anything is wrong or if everything is fine.

    That deflating sound could be due to your anti shudder / throttle intake flap not closing when ignition is turned off. also check for loose or flapping auxilliary drive belt due to tensioner failure or alternator pulley sprag clutch sticking, rattles or grinding noises could be dual mass flywheel fault - does the rattle noise change if you press in the clutch or have the car in gear and ride the clutch slightly.

    Thanks,

    I haven't tested it with the clutch, once I have done so I will get back to you.
    But its not very loud hard to tell until listening carefully from inside of car, you can feel mild jolts in the car when it does that somewhat rattling sound.
    almost like something spinning but not properly sometimes.

    From what you have mentioned is this an easy job to fix or will it cost a lot?

    If it is the flywheel that's failed I'd budget for several hundred pounds, presuming you aren't looking to do this yourself. It may be the reason why the car was up for sale. On the other hand it could be something simple. If you got it from a garage I'd get confirmation of the fault from a mechanic and take it back to the garage.

    Turn the AC to ECON before shutting down and see what happens.

    @Rob

    I checked service history and the Flywheel well (clutch kit x2) was changed about 11months ago.

    @Crasher
    Thanks I will test that when turning ignition off

    Ok so I have some what tested this now.
    With ECON on, the noise is still there when turning off.

    The rattling/grinding seems to go away when clutch is pressed.

    Box back out and investigate what went wrong, probably a SMF conversion or did not fit a new DMF.

    I don't get what you mean?

    Are you saying it used to be a DMF and was switched to a SMF which makes noise? or?
