I've been looking at replacing the trusty old 1.9pd Passat with something a bit younger and am looking at 1.8TSI Octavia'a around the 2010, 11, 12 age. The timing chain tensioner issues seem to have affected all the 1.8 and 2.0 litre TSI's (and TFSI's in Audi's ?).
I have seen it written in a VAG Technical product bulletin that a revised tensioner was fitted from 2010. Has anyone got experience of these revised tensioners being more reliable and any thoughts on chain change intervals and difficulty and high oil consumption on these engines ?
For what it's worth i'm looking at petrols instead of diesels as I do less than 10k / year and want to avoid CR and DPF's!
Cheers
Reinforced timing chain tensioner – new part 06H 109 467 T.
