Apple CarPlay freezes or crashes

CarPlay has never been 100% stable but recently it's become unusable. I find I often spend ages in the connection manager screen, plugging and unplugging my phone until CarPlay eventually comes to life, even after the phone name is ticked. Then once it's working it will often just freeze, or crash my MMI system leaving a black screen until I press the Menu button.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else is having these issues or if it's just me? (Using an iPhone 6S Plus on iOS 10.2 but its happened on older versions)

I'll try using an Apple cable next instead of the Audi provided one, see if that helps at all.

Turns out this was a dodgy cable, the good man at Audi swapped it for their new flexi type - I'm guessing the change means they knew the old type wasn't great?

They gave me the original cable free with the car, and kept the packaging - same this time too, so I'm afraid I didn't catch the reference number for it but this is it, basically
