19" Verona alloy tyre pressure

Noticing my car only has a B pillar sticker with the pressure for the 18" alloys - not the 19" - I've had half a dozen tweets with VW UK this morning asking "My Passat has factory fitted 19" Verona alloys on it, what recommended pressure should the tyres be at?"

So far I've been asked:

Were they on the car from new?
What tyres are on them?
Did we fit them?

Finally - "can you DM us your registration number".

It shouldn't be this hard to get an answer from VW UK to a simple question!!

I have had dealings with VWCS on a few occasions but have more luck with googling!

Now I've sent them my reg number they want the tyre model number for my car.

FWIW the only wheel size quoted on the sticker on the door pillar of my GT is for a space saver spare which is not part of GT spec. Pressures only are quoted for the proper wheels. Standard wheel size for the GT is 18" which I have. I have recently put on winter tyres on 17" wheels and used the same pressures and the car drives fine.

On the CC I had previously the sticker specified wheel sizes and pressures for the 205/50 x 17 winter tyres identical to those for the 235/40 x 18 summer tyres so I am comfortable taking the same approach for the B8 using 215/55 x 17 winter tyres in place of 235/45 x 18 summer tyres.

Googling did not bring any joy. Sites such Kwik-fit and National Tyre, etc could find my car and potential wheel sizes but did not have any pressure info.

Tyre pressure values are guidelines only. My sticker states 41psi which gives the same ride quality as a model T ford on solid tyres. I run 37psi.

If I were pump enough air into my tyres now to get 35psi @10*c The same amount of air on a 25*c day would give 40+psi. Drive the car, and get the tyres mildly warm and they'd be at 48psi.
Do them to what the 18" wheel should be and see how they feel.

Interesting is that, assuming your tyres are 235/40 x 19 because those pressures are lower than for the 235/45 x 18 standard load tyres on my car and I'd always rather superficially assumed that for a given vehicle the lower the aspect ratio of the tyres the higher the pressure to compensate for the slimmer sidewalls. Maybe the construction of the 235/40s compensates and more or they might be extra load tyres as were the 235/40 x 18s on my CC.

The choices on the GT's sticker are

Front/rear (normal load) 2.7 bar
Front/rear (normal load, comfort setting) 2.4 bar
Front/rear (heavy load/full car) Front 2.7 bar, rear 3.2 bar

Yes I was surprised for the same reasons as you, I'm keeping them at 38psi as it works for me and I'm not seeing undue centre wear.
