I tried to connect our genuine version of VCDS to the mk v golf today in order to try and change the odometer to from Km to Miles as suggested above but VCDS doesn't seem to want to connect to the Mk V for some reason. This is the 1st time I've tried to use VCDS on this car.

Its the latest version 16.8. I tried VCDS on my old Golf Mk iv and it worked on that car ok as usual. I just select the model from the chasis number and it auto scanned as it always did.

When I try Auto-Scan on the Mk V golf it says to select Auto-Detect for Can bus which I selected as the MK V is Can Bus. I get the following error "Scan Auto Detect. Function not supported by the gateway".

I also then tried to select a Mk V golf from the chassis list "Chassis Type 1K - VW Golf/Jetta V (2004 - 2009) Scan: Auto detect
Function not supported by the gateway".

When I plug the cable in to the Mk V golf the light on the cable goes from red to solid green as normal and everything looks ok.
Does anyone have any ideas why it won't communicate with the Mk V or am I doing something wrong?

Hi, not sure what you mean by "Interface"? I'm using a genuine up to date version of VCDS on a laptop with the genuine supplied cable.

Interface is just another name for the cable. Go into the options menu, do the USB test and post the result.

    Wrote on the cable is:
    HEX + CAN
    Dual-K & CAN <>USB
    Interface for VCDS

Here's a pic of the results, this is the same message I usually see when testing it on the Mk IV golf and everything works ok on that car.

The Brain will probably have the answer but just to humour me, what happens if you do [SELECT] [19-CAN Gateway]?

Not been called that for a while, since The Golf + mag folded, never did quite feel comfortable with the moniker...
