Can be a variety of things:

    Aircon needs recharging
    Valves sticking
    Fuse blown

    Have you done a scan?

    hi thanks for the message
i had it scanned before i replaced fan and controller to find the problem fault code1273 faulty fresh air blower so changed this and controller and as i said it worked fine .better than it ever has before for about six start up cycles and 1x 20 mile trip then nothing at all... not even intermittant as i used to be.. have put live fed to fan and it works ok also put old controller back on just in case new one was faulty .but still no joy i have it all appart at the moment fault739 fault of coolant circulation pump? fault256 refigerantpressuresensor disturbed function.
would aircon regass affect the fan working

No a regas probably would have no affect, but based on my experience with audi's things have more of a 'knock-on' effect than about any car I've ever driven in my life

I had mine done as part of a groupon offer and it cot me £19.99 at that price I can get it done every year. As it turned out there was no lubrication in the aircon system, so now running perfectly...even if the car is't!

If panel is stuck on "Econ" then "system" is detecting a fault and not allowing A/C. What diag tool are you scanning car with?

well car has been in garage since yesterday morning and i just popped in to see any progress omg my dash is all apart and mechanic is waiting for a wiring diagram.. as he cannot find the fault .he said it is possibly the new febi control unit i fitted audi has quoted £220 + vat for a new control unit but not agreeing to that until i know exactly what the fault is .and now to top it all the ignition key is stuck in the barrel .seems the auto stick sensor thinks its still in gear .the only fault showing .is bus something ?? not communicating
