Hope this is the most appropriate section.

I have small chip on windscreen slightly bigger than a match head. My insurance which is fully comp has windscreen cover with an excess of £75.

    Couple of questions:
Do I have to pay the excess if I use someone like autoglass or would this repair be free like the ad says?

Will my insurance company hold something like this against me come renewal time?

If they do I'd rather pay to get it done myself rather than paying an extra penalty through insurance costs next year.

Anyone had any experience on this subject?

Your £75 excess is for replacement only. Repair is either usually £10 or free... that's small enough to be repaired. You can only use a windscreen company authorised by your insurer if you want cover. Phone and check with them or they won't authorise the claim.

In the event you needed a new windscreen, you probably wouldn't rather pay yourself when you see the cost of one.... lol. Vehicle dependant. I had a new windscreen fitted by National Windscreens 2 years ago through Tesco insurance. It never affected my premium.

just had a new screen fitted to my s4, £110 plus vat. same company quoted me 140 plus vat for a mk 4 golf. most are around this price. just a good little local windscreen cover that would get my business over someone like autoglass any day..

I found that. I wanted my rear window doing as it's falling out and the demist don't work.... autoglass quoted me £785 inc vat... National windscreens and rac both quoted £140 fitted inc VAT...... Was that the cost of a windscreen outwright mate?

Update: Contacted my insurance broker who seemed to think I'd be charged the excess fee even for repair and that I'd better to get a quote and if it was under £75 to pay it myself.
I got the impression she didn't know what she was talking about and when I pressed her if she was positive she said she would put me through to my actual insurance provider AXA.
Anyway got speaking with them and described damage less than 5p coin etc and they said it wouldn't cost anything to repair and sent a report to National Windscreens who they use. They contacted me within 10mins and arranged to come out tomorrow. They also confirmed size and that it could be repaired without a fee. Happy days
