Not unless he cracked the turbo open and did a proper job. Which wouldn't need Mr Muscle, all it needs is parafin or carb cleaner, a brass scraper and a couple of hours on the bench.

For all we know he squirted some Mr Muscle all surface bathroom cleaner. If you ain't goign to split the turbo, your best bet is to try and get some holy water from Lourdes and pour that in. God will be more effective than Mr Muscle.

Quick update from 14th March. I've been driving this a lot and the symptoms appears to have moved on. It's running as good as ever through the gears and acceleration. It seems to now trigger at a higher speed - running at 60/70 mph and then goes into what appears to be limp mode/loss of power, and not as regular now. I got some MAS cleaner and sprayed the connection but that doesn't appear to have helped. Ironically, the coolant warning light is now coming on - there is a water patch at the front drivers side. I top up coolant - do 20 miles and it needs topping up again. I'm not sure if it's related - back with mechanic on Thursday.

    Hi - a lot happening.

New radiator - coolant issue was a leak, resolved last Tuesday, no issues since. while I was with him I checked he split the turbo. he did. I could get a second opinion?

All this got me reading and I changed the air filter and the fuel filter, (myself!!) not sure when they were last done but fuel filter was black. Whilst air filter off I sprayed MAS/P again - filter was a bit dusted up.

Can tell this has made a difference to the drive, turbo fizzing and really good drive even though….

Alas, still not resolved the car going into limp mode. Frequency very much reduced but still there.

Any advice on how to check the pipes for any splits and leaks, I'm assuming more than a visual check? Any which pipes, all of them?

    The journey continues.....

If this is still on its original turbo at 150,000 miles then there's a good chance the VNT mechanism is worn, so even if it's clean it might not be positioning correctly as requested by the ECU/N75 and actuator or the vanes might be chattering about. I've a couple of pals who've had to replace the turbos on 2 litre engines well before that mileage. If you're looking to replace the vacuum hoses do them all and check for rubs where they are clipped to the bulkhead etc, if you want to test you'd need a hand operated vacuum pump with gauge, but I've noticed the hose going onto the turbo actuator seems to get the most heat and maybe perishes the most.
