    Hi all,

My 2005 sport quattro has developed a general roughness from the engine and a pulsing/resonant vibration in 6th gear at between 60 and 70 mph. It stops if you dip the clutch. The only other thing it does is on start up 1st thing in the morning there is a rough throaty noise which disappears after a second or two. Anyone any ideas?

Sounds like the DMF is failing, the BFV uses a special flywheel, genuine only.

The DMF has been replaced, allegedly! Could the harmonic balancer/crank pulley cause the same type of vibration?

I have never known one to go on the 1.8T. Can you find out what was fitted as regards the flywheel?

It was priced for an Audi DMF. I have no way of finding out unless I get the gearbox dropped again
