So, one problem sorted, another one appears Fantastic lol.

My 1.8T seems to be using about 800ML of oil every thousand miles..... which is roughly enough to take it from full on the dipstick, to low enough that the MIN symbol appears on the instrument cluster. That's a fairly high consumption (although I'm hoping as a side effect that it aids cleaning the engine lol).

Now, to be fair, I have no idea what oil is in. If it's 5w30, it might far too thin, seeing as it's got 110k miles on the clock and it's a hot running engine. Still, I actually topped it up with 5w40 and it seems to have made no difference, just a few weeks later, the MIN light re-appears.

Are there any common places to check for leaks? I know the oil cooler housing is one. However with all the undertray it's kind of hard to see from underneath, so I can only really inspect from above and by shoving my phone to the side, which I've done. There appears to be oil, but I can't tell if that's from the oil cooler or not.

Nonetheless this is what I see from the side of the filter:

At 13 Centistokes @100°C it's never going to reduce consumption whilst the typical 5W30 504.00 is 12 Centistokes .

The leak appears to be coming from the right hand side of the engine block (drivers side UK). Might try get the under tray off today.

Decided take it to kwik fit, get a free diagnosis. Wouldn't say they were much use. They said the entire engine is caked in oil, also the gearbox. It's not the turbo. They think it's coming from the top of the engine they think either a breather or rocker cover. I asked whether it could be PCV but he looked a tad confused. Not going to complain. Free half diagnosis I suppose. Not the turbo, yay.

    Anything coming to mind?

Decided chance my arm at a Halfords for their free diagnosis.

It's definitely the rocker cover gasket (or valve cover gasket for our American friends). They reckon it's leaking from their onto the coil packs and if I had removed the engine cover I'd have probably spotted it. To be fair, I couldn't really be bothered. Easier let those guys do the hard work, and I do the easy work of fixing it.

Rocker cover it is. Let's see if I can get a genuine part before the weekend, otherwise it'll have to wait another week. Are aftermarket copies any good? Just I can get one from ECP very easily. Not so easy to get parts from Audi.
