I recently purchased an A7 BiTDI on a 63 Plate. I just want to get some advice on the service and warranty.

For the service question, the car has full Audi service history, the on board computer states the next oil change is in 8000 miles however a service was due 40 days ago. Looking at the "Vehicle Management System (VMS) - Vehicle Summary" which Audi provided before I purchased the vehicle it states the service regime as "New Longlife" which I assume is a long life service plan. This is the service history:

    - 03/06/2014 - 11425 miles - Flexible oil change service (This is when Audi sold the car to the previous owner)
    - 21/01/2015 - 19126 miles - Inspection with oil change + Dust and Pollen filter
    - 15/03/2016 - 35821 miles - Inspection with oil change (Flexible)

As mentioned above the computer is stating next oil change is in 8000 miles and service due 40 days ago. Is this right? Can it be due for a service considering it has recently had one in March 2016? The car has done 44,000 miles now.

I have spoke to a few Audi dealers from which I have received different info from. Some say the next service is due at 54,000 miles or March 2018, the others say it is due to come in now (6 months after the last service). The service cost is £329.99 from Audi.

What do you people think? Did someone at Audi just not reset the on board computer properly?

If it is due now whats your thoughts of getting it serviced from an independent VW/Audi specialist which would be cheaper. Would this put people off when I come to sell it in a year or two?

Moving onto the Audi Extended warranty, having got some quotes from them online, its around £75 a month with £250 excess on the all component cover. It also has a named component cover which is £20 cheaper a month, this seems to be the same but does not include water ingress and consequential failure upto a limit of £2,000 including VAT. For those of you who have this which one have you gone for?

I had a service a few months ago and they set my service reminder to 7000 miles as it needs a belt or something at 40k.

They can seemingly set what they want to what they want or need. It seems knowing your car also helps as they tried telling me I needed a gearbox oil change for £400 even though it's sealed for life!

Now mine is out of warranty I will be getting it done through an Indy specialist. Although as there is no service book I'm not sure how all the services will be logged. I would like to do it myself but then I don't even have receipts.

Thanks for the reply. There is a couple of indy specialists near me so could go there and get all servicing done with one of those using genuine parts.

Be nice to know the schedule of servicing and what needs changing when in terms of miles/age. Not sure if there is something in the manuals for this. Will check tomorrow.

The service 40 days ago will probably be for the brake fluid change which is due at 3 years then every 2 years. The fuel filter also gets changed at about 40k. The long life service is set at 30000km which is about 19k miles but depends on how it is driven, that is the max - it can be less. Annoyingly, the oil change and inspection can end up being a couple of thousand miles apart.

Yes, this is correct for 8-speed Tiptronic gearboxes like on your BITDI, but there is a 38k gearbox oil change needed for 7-speed S-tronics gearboxes on some lower power TDI models. You would have thought your service adviser or mechanic would have known what was required from their electronic database/system!!

Thanks for that. I have checked in the service schedule book and come up with the same info from you. Fuel Filter, Dust Pollen Filter and Brake Fluid. They quoted £329 Inc VAT. That's just over 1% of the cars value so may as well go direct to them and get the Audi 'Stamp'.

Bit of a pain there is no service book now which makes it difficult to go to independent garages who don't have access to the online database and record a service done.

Got this booked in with Audi much cheaper than I thought it would be considering the prices mentioned on the other service thread here.

£199 for engine oil + oil filter + pollen filter + inspection
    £101 for fuel filter
    £60 for brake fluid

Includes wash and hoover and loan car.
