golf mk5 gti reverse light issue

Hi all. Just picked up a mk5 Gti. I am having issues with the reverse light. When I select reverse the light comes on but after a few seconds will go out and the bulb warning will show on the dash. Obviously not the bulb as it works temporarily? When the car is turned off and back on the warning light has gone.... until next time I select reverse and the same occurs. Any ideas?

Sometimes the gearbox reverse switch go faulty, could just be a simple swap over or even a broken wire

I think you might find the wiring loom that passes through the rubber boots beside the tailgate hinges is starting to break up. I had to replace mine when the rear wash wipe took on a mind of its own.

Quick update. Reverse light all sorted. Really simple fix. It was the LED build that was in playing up. New bulb, all sorted.
