Could somebody please tell me if I need to completely remove the front bumper to replace a front parking sensor (middle O/side)? Its a 1.9tdi and I'm not sure if its accessible by removing the headlight. Thanks

Yesterday replaced the front middle nearside parking sensor of my 2002 Allroad. I lifted the bonnet and gently pressed back the two butterfly clips on the lower side of the sensor and then pushed from outside to remove. Then I released the connector by gently rotating a screwdriver in the gap to "click" release the connector. Dont know if it is as accessible on your car. My front outers look like the headlights would have to be removed - don't know as I removed the bumper when refurbing all the sensors by sanding off the corrosion and repainting. However, this particular sensor had failed - and confirmed bu VCDS.
For sure, on the Allroad, the rear bumper has to be removed to access any of the rear sensors.
    Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be that simple on mine as there is a metal panel in the way. The rears are simple enough, as they are accessible without having to move anything but the fronts cannot be accessed at all without removing the bumper so it seems :-(

I can send you a pdf of the relevant section of maint manual on how to remove front bumper. If you need it pm me with ALL the details of your car - model, year, engine code, auto/manual and your email address. IF you have headlight washers, be sure to disconnect the water hose before removing the bumper - the T-piece connector is easily broken!
