    Hey chaps,

Upon doing my gearbox last Thursday, I noticed that several vacuum hard pipes are almost worn through.

Since Col has inspired me to spruce up my car with his diary thread I've decided I should replace them all BEFORE they go... now, question is, does anybody know where I can get coils of pipe to do this with? The hard wall stuff... I can get silicone stuff to do the flexi bits....and any rough ideas of how much I would need length wise?

I also wonder, is it available in say.... colours...

    Cheers for any help

    Aidan

The wiring to the MaF is also in a bad way along with the return hose to the coolant reservoir.... Coolant tank will be getting replaced as it's stained brownyorangyred... and it's only a few quid.

I'm also debating replacing a load of bolts and screws with stainless or anodises variants? Particularly rocker cover bolts which are a nice crusty brown. Coolant Reservoir screws and several other visible ones... can anyone shed any light?

    Cheers
    Aidan

Thought about it. Was looking at silicone tubing on, you guessed it, eBay. Any good? I always imagined soft tubing would collapse under vacuum.

I use silicone a lot for vacuum lines, I buy it off a chap in a van who comes round a couple of times a year.

Been using the silicone stuff off Ebay for year's. Never had any problems with it. Just buy it off someone who sells a lot and has high feedback. The walls of the silicone stuff is weigh thicker than the oem rubber rubbish.

It's not relevant here but it is worth noting that on the old fashioned VEP TDI, silicone is no good for diesel return lines and the rubber cloth braided type has to be suitable, VAG mark it with a yellow line.

Think I'll look at some nice yellow silicone stuff then, fed up of black, fancy a change . Now the question is. 4mm or 3mm. Got work soon so will have to have a look and do some measuring at the weekend unless anybody can shed any light?

Assuming it be the fuel of the Devil, there are two different sizes, 3.5x2 for 7 of the hoses, 5x3 for the other 10. Bright colours look crap by the time you have fitted them, all covered in grubby marks and it's difficult stuff to clean.
