Hi, recently i have had some problems trying to select 1st and reverse gear on my 2.0 tid 140, 2006, it only happens every now and then, and if i select 3rd gear first, both 1st and reverse go straight in with no problem, then today when i was sat in traffic with the car in 1st i noticed if i let the brake off the car started moving forwards, not fast, just as if the clutch pedal was raised a little, and ideas ???

It is dry as a bone underneath, although there is the plastic engine cover under the engine, but there is never any fluid under the car, I was thinking maybe air in system, it has had new front discs and pads before I bought it.

Your clutch is not disengaging properly which is stopping it select gears, is the biting point near the floor ? Could be the master cylinder or more likely slave cylinder, I would get it bled and see if that helps. Is it better if you pump the clutch pedal a few times ? I would get this fixed as it will not be doing your gearbox syncromesh much good. Possibly a warped clutch plate or faulty pressure plate has the clutch been badly over heated recently ? cheers Ben

cheers ben, yes i have had the clutch bled and still no different, it is very random when it does it, i have had the car to a gearbox/clutch specialist as well as my own mechanic and they are both saying flywheel. also not sure if the clutch has been overheated as i have only had the car 4 weeks.
