    Hi,

im a newbie on the site and wondered if you might be able to help me.

I have a 2013 passat alltrack with 225/45/18 tyres which need replacing, however i want to replace with michelin cross climate and they don't come in this size. Michelin have informed me that they will be releasing 235/45/18 in october, so my question is will they fit? I'm sure a regular passat can have 235's on 17 and 18 inch wheels so I'm unsure why the alltrack has 225's.

any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

they would be about 9mm bigger in diameter and obviously 10mm wider. so if you have more than 5mm between the tyre and the strut on the inside then they should fit just fine. i also run the cross climates and they are an awesome tyre.

I'm sure you'll be fine but let your insurers know. I fitted 245/45 18s to my Octavia Scout without issue when the default size was 225/50 17. That raised its height by 10mm on a car with similar "rough road" suspension. Your 9mm diameter increase equates to just 4.5mm ride height increase and it's normally the vertical clearance that is more critical.

I haven't been on for a while so i thought i would post a quick update.

I went ahead and purchased the michelin cross climates in 235/45/18 as opposed to the 225/45/18 manufacturers spec tyre. I've had them on for about 1500 miles now with no clearance issues at all, they have been very good in all the foul weather that we have had over the last few months, they are much quieter than the old tyres as well. The car has just had a service and MOT at a main dealer and they haven't mentioned the non standard size, overall I'm really pleased with the winter/cold performance, hopefully they will perform as well throughout the summer.

I just took my utilitarian "winter" setup off one car and fitted some oversized CrossClimates. My satnav app now shows there's no tolerance so worth checking yours for a bit more confidence. As with most new tyres, they produce the volume sizes first to get the quickest return so there may be more choice next time around. In fact I was just considering the conversion sizes required for my other cars as Michelin have recently announced a handful of sizes in the new CrossClimate SUV.
