    Hello all.
I'm a new owner of an A6. It's a 2009 2.0tdi e s-line (avant). A great car and I'm really happy with it. BUT... There's a couple of things I'd like to fix or get working properly. The first thing is bluetooth. I believe it has the makings of it there but I can't get it to work. It will turn bluetooth on and search for devices but finds nothing, and if I search for the car from my phone, it doesn't show up.
On the MMI screen it shows bluetooth as turned on but the rest of the menu is greyed out. Can this be rectified somehow? Oh, the other thing is, I have the base plate of a telephone mounted down in the centre armrest, so I assume that a phone was operational at some stage.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Did you set the bluetooth connection "visible" on your phone and in your car?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Setting on my phone is definitely visible on my phone. I THINK it's visible on car too. I'm at work at the moment but I'll check at home tonight.

You can also reset, or remove the former bluetooth devices, and try the search again.

Right then, I have visibility enabled on my phone and bluetooth switched on in the car. From the MMI I can search for devices but nothing is found. In the bluetooth menu, bluetooth is marked ON. Below that discoverability is marked AUTO but is in grey colour and can't be selected. Neither can any of the options that follow.
I found the section for factory settings and reset them for telephone, bluetooth and voice controls but there was no change.
I'm wondering about the base for the handset in the armrest. Could that be wired in a way that overrides the bluetooth option?

Hi, don't know if you've got anywhere with this, but I have a a 2006, so non-facelift and not the same... I do however have key-less ignition and start and stop but I found that I couldn't pair a bluetooth device without inserting the key!!! Probably doesn't apply to you, but good luck.

Hi. No I haven't gone any further with this yet. I've been busy with work and my better half has been driving the car, so not too much of a chance to play with it. I've been trying to research it though. It seems to me that if you have the handset fitted in the armrest (which I do) then the bluetooth option does not work. Now, I could buy the old Nokia or Motorola phone that fits in there but I'd have to swap my SIM into it all the time, or try to get a duplicate sim to leave in it. But what then when the missus gets back in it? It's a mess really, a bit of a dopey system if you ask me. If I can divert away from it and get the ORDINARY bluetooth working so ANY phone can connect to it when needed, I'll do it.

Nah, I have plate in armrest. Never used it, just Bluetooth. Some times it won't connect so I just delete every thing and re connect. I did have to replace the module (under front passenger carpet) some time a go but that was because it was no good. You need to connect to module using vcds to see what's wrong, or if it's there.

Yeah, I think that's exactly what I need to do. I don't have it or know anyone near me who does. I can see it being a useful tool to have so gonna save me pocket money to buy it

Mornin all. I've still not resolved this but got slightly closer. I got involved in a thread over in the Incar Entertainment section where I found 2 or 3 others with the identical problem. Hopefully there's a link to it here....
    2009 A6 MMI - Bluetooth & Sat issues - Page 2
If you read on you'll see that there's a software fix that can be done, and the others seem to have had success, but it won't work for me. I'm not sure why.
The fix file is a zipped one which I put on a clean sd card. When I put the sd card in and begin to update, I get the message "the release info could not be read" and then a prompt to abort.
    Any ideas anyone? Please?
    Thanks, Paul.
