Hello, looking for advice on what I should be looking for on a B6 Passat im viewing next week, it's really low miles with one owner. Has the DSG gearbox and usual highline spec.

What are the most common faults on these cars and what is a giveaway that they have been fixed or will crop up in future. Parking brake is one I keep hearing about. The DSG had a recall on oil, I read they used to short of synthetic oil was used. Is this true? As I believe it was rectified on this vehicle.

I'm also worries about the low miles, they are genuine I'm more worried about the engine, piston linings and oil ways etc as I can only assume a lot of short journeys. Anything I can do to check performance/ fuel economy, other than booting it and giving it a good clean out anything else?

    Thank you in advance

It is not a common car, in fact pretty rare. It has the EA888 engine which has suffered well documented awful oil consumption issues which have generally been ironed out now in the third generation units, as have nasty cam chain eating habits but you don't say which years the car is. This car uses the DSG dry clutch system, the DQ200. We need more info though as there are too many variations, PM me the cars reg number.

    Miles?

A lot of TSIs had to have their chain tensioner changed to uprated component

DSG oil and filter change is every 40k miles

Ask seller to allow a VCDS Autoscan to be taken -- first with current faults (if any) And second after all faults have been cleared to see if any return. Many dealers (I've done two of these) are pleased to get a copy of the report too coz even if their sale doesn't go through, if it's a clear Autoscan they've got more sales' ammo

27,000 miles. DSG oil and filter was changed last service. It's a private sale, I don't think he will have vcds nor I.

then pay someone to scan the car. better still, pay someone to do a full inspection, AA, RAC etc, local garage, someone who knows cars to give it a good checkover before parting with lots of money.

I can't do that, never mind I'm travelling one way tickets etc ive already haggled the price down a lot.

I've bought a couple of cars over the years and through a thorough check by myself I haven't had any problems. I have done a hpi check and mot check for mileage and I've even called the be dealership who sold and serviced it last. I'm confident it's genuine.

The only thing it be worried about is faults that will crop up in the future eg electronic parking brake. These are things that I'm sure would crop up even if I paid for an inspection either way.

Am I being naive in not getting a inspection maybe, but it's only a couple of grand and I believe especially at this point in the game I have already bought the car.
