Also just purchased a 2016 allroad with 40k+ miles, same issue on Allroad setting and occasionally on other settings. What do I need to do to drop the bump stops? Do I remove the wheel and pull the stop out of the mount? Also found this TSB, which advises using "Tyre Mounting Paste" to fit bump stops" https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...66028-2280.pdf Tyre paste would I believe dry out and not provide lubrication... I would appreciate recommendations on what to "lubricate" the bump stop with? I would have guessed Silicon Grease as used by plumbers and electricians??

I have recently had to do this to my recently purchased 2016 Biturbo Allroad with 40k on it.

Really easy to do, jack up, remove wheel (I did both sides, even though it was only the N/S squeaking), use a medium flat blade screwdriver to “unseat” the bump stop and grasp hard and twist/pull down. It will eventually come out of its housing, don’t butcher it and tear the rubber material. Use a big flat blade screwdriver, or similar to scrape out the worst of the whitish aluminium corrosion, I then cleaned up as best as I could with an abrasive pad, I suppose you could use a pot scourer type thing as well.
I then coated the outside of the bump stop with red rubber grease (which won’t attack the rubber over time), you can buy little tubs cheaply on a certain auction website. Make doubly sure the bump stop is fully inserted all the way back into the housing when refitting.
I was quite sceptical that this fix wouldn’t work, but it does, lovely and silent now. All credit to whoever discovered this fix.

Thanks to all - annoying creaking now gone on Allroad and occasionally on other ride heights. Pulling or twisting I thought I would destroy the bump stop!.. I gently pushed a medium flat screwdriver up between the rubber and the mounting each side and then levered the bump stop down about 3 or 4mm, it then pulled out easily. I cleaned up and lubricated with red grease (Rubberlube), which I also rubbed around inside the aluminium cup. The bump stop pushed easily into place and has stayed put.

Fantastic find. This was exactly my problem with rear near side suspension. White salt like deposits at top of bump stop. All cleaned out and lubed up with silicone spray. Totally cured problem. Silent driving from now. Just to add though, the bump stops are looking very dry and starting to crack too so I intend to replace these at some point soon. Thanks again.
