    Hey,

My car decided today it wasn't going start, used the car all day yesterday and parked it up last night and had no issues. Today it wouldn't start. It turns over but won't start. Ran the vagcom and the only fault coming up is ( 01176 - key - 008 - implausible signal - intermittent), There isn't much on online about it only that it might be the immobiliser reader coil. I have two keys and both won't start the car, I changed the battery in both keys just incase. I also disconnected the battery on the car for a few mins to see if that would do anything. I know reprogramming the key to the immobiliser could help but I don't have the security code that allows me to do that. Is there any anything else I could check or try to do to fix the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

You could strip covers on steering lock and check reader coil and wiring for defects

hey, just striped them off there now. all looks good, is it a big job to switch the reader coil. Do you know where the cable from the reader coil go's to? Also now getting a fault code for the fuel pump relay, which I think is relay 167 under the bonnet. I don't know if I'm getting that fault because the voltage from the battery probably dropped after the attempts to start it. I cleared the fault for the key and it hasn't reappeared, Am i right in saying it should reappear if there is a problem with the immobiliser.

When I test the fuel pump relay J17 in vagcom what should happen? would I just hear the relay click or would the fuel pump start? When i run the test I can't see or hear anything happening!
