Hi, im new here and joined to get some answers regarding an "intermittent" (being the key word) problem with my wheels, so bare with me whilst i describe her symptoms.
Just pottering around one day when a loud clanking noise came from the engine and a vibrating feel up the clutch especially when i was releasing it to change gear. When the revs were depressed a little, the noise subsided slightly and came back in when i released the clutch on a gear change. Again when i accelerated, the noise quietened slightly. I pulled up at my destination and on coming back started her up to hear the same noise. She clanked and vibrated her way through two traffic lights, then drove normally. This has happened a few times over a period of around 8 weeks. Next i was on the motorway, doing about 75 when the noise came again and the vibration was through the steering wheel. I dropped to around 65 and after a minute or two it eased off. Back on the revs to 75 and she drove normally. I've had a few fellas sucking through teeth saying it could be this or that, but no one knows for sure. I need to keep her if possible, just a year or so but am worried to drive too far in case she konks out and don't want to throw good money after bad as she is an older woman

I just need to get her running normal but this problem is causing me great grief !

    Can anyone help please ?

Why do say a problem with your wheels?
Sounds like it could be clutch/DMF related to me.

Wouldnt this be happening all the time though and not intermittently ?

i would agree with rowdy, it sounds like a dmf problem. as to why its not constant, dont know, thats just a dmf thing. if the car is up on a ramp, check all suspension componenets, give the drive shafts a twist to rule out a worn inner cv and if nothing else is found that could cause it, then suspect the dmf on its way. it could just be giving you a warning to get it done before it lets go and take the bellhousing with it.

I've heard reversing up a steep slope can exaggerate the symptoms of a worn dmf.
