No reverse or 1st or 2nd gears. Selector cables all intact but selector lever on top of gearbox will not budge. Looks like selector pin/plate problem? Am in Kent and wonder if anyone can recommend a gearbox repair / reconditioning company that can help me out. Breaks my heart to spend the sort of money I am guessing it will cost me, but the rest of the car is a beaut and it would be a crying shame to scrap or break her.

Can I do this without removing the gearbox from the car?

The bushes are £1.78 each and you need two...

Mind you if you snap the rod you need the rebuild kit

    1J0 711 067 L £1.78 x 2
    1J0 711 203 F £28.39
    1J0 711 761 C £12.11
    1J0 711 550 £4.81
    N 908 159 03 £0.54

This is the similar 0A4 set up which has the same issue as the 02M

Thanks for the info. I disconnected the cables and still cannot move the operating arm. I am thinking it may be the pin has broken from the selector arm inside the box.

They do have a habit of doing that, the rivets break off. I do have a low mileage box from a 2001 4M we bought years ago as a spare for our own 4M (now just sold) but the back casing would need swapping over as I had to use it on an A3 quattro which had a cracked case.

An update on this. The car is back from being repaired today. It was a broken rivet on the lower selector fork. Had the garage fit a new clutch while the box was out of the car. Drives beautifully again and I once more have a smile on my face while I am driving.
