It's nothing to do with fuel consumption but more to do with costs ! Wait till you get a puncture and then find out your tyre sealant prevents any normal repair !

100 quid for a tyre and 200 for a wheel, have you noticed a price reduction for not having a spare. over a million cars thats a heck of a lot of money. in fact, thats enough to give every upset yank some compo for their pollution...

    I have a 56 plate Touran.

Having had to remove the rear seats to clean puke off when my darling daughter puked down the side I spotted why there is no spare with the 7 seaters.
The rear 2 seats actually bolt over the top of the spare wheel well!

you "could" fit a spare in there but you would have to take the rear seats out every time you wanted to get at it.

It's shame they couldn't come up with a design to keep the wheel well accessible when fitting the rear 2 seats.

Well they do fold flat, just would be nice if you could fold the base forwards :P the headrest compartment could use wingnuts rather then those plastic bolt heads to allow access/removal.
The middle row already fold forward so it's not like they don't have the technology!

I hope I never get a puncture in mine as I've heard getting the foam off the wheel is not a nice job!

How about putting a spare on the roof in a top box?

Sadly it's a 7 seater (3 kids) and there's nowhere to put a spare except in the boot itself. If there was I'd lookout for a steel or alloy spare and store it in the car. As above it's the first car I've had without a spare and I really do find it quite off putting.
