    Hi,

    I have just got a 2000 W reg Audi A6 2.7 Petrol.

The factory stereo broke and I have tried to replace with a sony head unit. It would seem the wires halfords and other places have sent me just dont work.
I can get them connected up and there is no power to the headunit.
I have been advised to run a wire direct into fuse box, this seems a bit dangerous to me.

Please can anyone help and explain what is going wrong, is it the audi loom does not have a switched feed??

The car is non canbus as i have been informed it was not canbus until 2002???

    Any help would be useful.

Have you checked the fuses? I'd check them then and get a multi meter to see if you are getting a switched supply with the ignition on. If not run the permanent feed to both the head units positive feeds and remember to turn it off when you leave the car.
