Hi all,
I'm after some help/advise please. I put my Audi A3 in for an MOT back in February where I was informed that there was slight movement in my front wheels and that my front bushes would need to be replaced possibly within the next 6 months. Anyway 4 months later driving the car over speed humps and those dreaded pot holes I noticed a knocking sound coming from the front drivers side. I took my car into a guy I know, to have the front bushes inspected and possibly replaced who inspected the car and informed me that there was nothing wrong with the bushes and in fact it was the steering rack rod arm that was knocking and causing the movement. He ordered a new rod and fitted, however the new rod did the same as the old rod so he fitted the old one back on the car and put a load of grease to cushion the knocking explaining that the grease will cushion for a while but the knocking will return and the only way to stop it is to replace the steering rack!!! ££££££

Can anyone tell me is the car safe to drive for the moment as there is only sleight movement?

Is this likely to cause the car to fail the MOT next year if not replaced?

Also

How can i get the part number for a new rack? I have manged to get the car on a jack and get a couple of numbers but i'm unsure of which number I need, to order a new rack.

the numbers i got are: 7805 501 193 and 1K2 423 ?51 BC

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt
