Fitting DIS and cruise. What size Allen for cowl?

So, my cars steering wheel is currently in bits.
i was happily plowing through the diy cruise install until I came across one small hitch.
i can't undo the tiny Allen screws securing the cowl!!

ive tried all my Allen keys and none will bite.
my smallest Allen is 2.5mm
anyone know what size Allen nut this is meant to be?
as soon as I know I'll be able to buy one and get the job done!

ive got a 2mm Allen key from someone at work so I'll try that.

I was waiting for a response from someone who actually knows, but are you sure they are Allen and not TORX or other spline-type heads?

I've been using this guide from here http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads...-guide.191791/ as the vwaudi diy guide has broken image links.
It says 2x torx and 2x Allen screws.

I've undone the 2x torx which look like T25 -ish. With a torch the front 2 remaining screws look small but I can't see what shape they are. They do look like Allen, but it's so hard to see they might be torx....

It's not clear to me where the Allen screws are, but the Allen key shown in the picture following that of the 2 Torx screws looks bigger than 2mm.

That's what I thought too.
I've bought a full set of torx and Allen both long versions any inc tiny sizes.
Fingers crossed one will fit!

So I tried every single torx from T10 upwards. Nothing.
Then every Allen key from 1.5mm upwards and..... nothing.

And as I need to drive the car I thought screw this!!
And I've put it all back together.

Phillps ot Pozi? Maybe you could use a piece of plasticine or blue tack on the end of a stick to get an impression.

No idea.
used a torch and it looks like an Allen.
i give up though. I've spent £45 on assorted tools from spline socket sets through to torx and allens, only to be flummoxed by 2 screws of unknown type.
i was very close to just smashing the ******* thing apart with a hammer to be honest.

its a T9
my mate at work was doing the same to his S4 at the weekend and had even left his T9 torx driver in his car.
just finished fitting the replacement control stalks.
