Just replacing cambelt on ASZ engine and unable to locate the cam lock I had to tipex a tab on the cam pulley. I have reassembled but just noticed this.

    20170325_124823.jpg20170325_130443.jpg

The cam appears to be 30deg out.

Should I stick to the tipex marks I put on before removal or strip the sprocket off set the cam by the locking pin and reassemble?

i suspect the cam pulley is on wrong, thats why you cant find the hole for the pin. i would remove the pulley and get it all done right.

Yes, remove the pulley, check the hub behind is aligned with the hole and refit the pulley in the correct position.

Thanks for the replies, Update - Just come in from taking the the sprocket off n setting the hub by the lock pin then refitting the sprocket and you can't turn the engine more than about 20deg before it locks. Set it all back to tipex marks and and turns full 360.

Odd, the hub is supposed to have a key way and the cam a slot so I can't see that being the problem, are you using a crank locking plate?

[QUOTE=Crasher - Odd, the hub is supposed to have a key way and the cam a slot so I can't see that being the problem, are you using a crank locking plate?]

I didn't have a locking plate at the time of fitting the belt which is why I tepexed crank n cam. The engine is a replacement fitted after turbo failure destroyed the original. It revs up smooth as long as you're smooth with the throttle but has slight knock if rough so thought I'd get the locking tools as and check the timing's deffo right. which is when I've found the above issue.

Maybe no help now,but I found in my ASZ that the cam locking pin was a fraction too large to fit in locating hole,
the drill bit was the same,so I expect the hole was a fraction smaller,I spent ages before fitting a pin that would enter
There are also two types of crank locking tools, I think the ASZ has the round cogs,if I remember correctly.I got the wrong one first.

This is true, I thought it might've been the cheap locking kit but 6mm drill was too tight t get in so found 5.5 drill is better fit than 6mm lock pin

Are you using a locking plate now AND the correct design as there are two?

This is it, 10050 type. With it installed the tipex marks line up (but the cam lock doesn't)and engine runs have a video but can't upload it.
