Fair enough, also, my turbo makes a whizzing noise as i go through the gears, does this just mean its being stretched? (happend more after remap)

Could the extra load on older bearings on the turbo - could be un-related, depends what the map is doing. Is it delivering extra pressure or just fueling? Could just be a wearing out turbo, scored turbine etc.

I'm just curious, but define "intake" upgrade? Pre-turbo... Post turbo? Im not all that familiar with golf layout as I drive a b5.5 Passat but VW did a pretty decent job of setting up the air intake on it... Maybe the golf is different... I know people that stick cone filters on passats etc and it's a waste of time.... Just makes the intercooler less efficient as it draws air from a hot engine bay instead of a forced feed from the grille... Maybe I'm off on a tangent. Who knows... The hour is late and the eyelids heavy... Lol.

Yeah, ive done some research and a cone filter is what im looking at, looks like it does little to **** all in terms of performance, especially for the cost 1-200 squids, might give that one a miss..

A better flowing / larger intercooler, throttle bod, manifolds etc is what I would be thinking for a turbo. But the turbo will be doing the most work so probably a better inter-cooler, especially if its an uprated turbo with higher pressures. But you have to be pretty serious and on a plan to do all that work - depends if the rest can hold up to the wound up pressures also. Although for a diesel the butterfly is to stop it running away with itself.. so not sure on that one!

Im a serious guy, ive got the money, and the tools. Will let my mechanic mate at local VW do my turbo, but is an intercooler upgrade something i can delve into?

Yeah, should be straight forward to fit too, if you are going to get it mapped out

Cool, and in terms of remapping. Is it worth me buying a blue fin, as opposed to taking it to my local ECU place costing £200 each time, so i can just programme my car after i mod it, or is ECU remapping after mods much more complicated requiring a Dyno?

Personally, if I was gonna do all that work I would probably buy another engine and rebuild it from bottom up. Big end bearings etc. Start with a fresh canvass then and no nasty surprises. Second engines are cheap enough on the bay usually (engine code dependant obviously). Once built how I wanted, I would simply swap it into the car.. Cone filters on tdis are a waste of time IMO. You've got a turbo to force air into the engine... It's not gonna run out of air any more than we are. Colder the better though, intercooler is easy enough, have a look on dark side developments for a kit.

Cheers pal, and yeah, im just getting into the whole car mod game after buying a car thats worth modding for the crack, i think an engine rebuild is something ill look at near christmas time, when i know the car inside out, so i can build it to my spec. Also gotta consider insurance, sitting at 1400 in my dads name with declaring exhaust mod and alloys.
