Hmm. Well that's odd. You might need to get a test light out in check whats powered with the ignition on. The fuel pump is priming, its cranking and no spark.. so whatever that is, its preventing being sparked from the ignition module fed by the ECU. Is the immobiliser coded in to the ECU? You will need to do this with VCDS.

Although I would have thought it would cut the fuel pump, i'm not sure on that though.

It has to be something fairly straight forward. Is the loom intact? You might need to do some tracing of wires. Has the car been fault scanned at any time? Sounds like it needs one.

    Fuses are another one.

Did he give you any codes or any information?

ECU's are quite hardy, so if its not functioning, its most likely the wiring going to it

hall sender should give a code, G60 iirc. When mine failed it did, although after repairing my aging loom you never know what you might find.

You need a couple of cans of contact cleaner, and go through the loom in the bay. I will update my thread later might give you some points to check as the looms will be pretty similar. Years of grime will cover up broken insulation and even increase wire resistance maybe even cause a short or two. I was shocked at how many small nicks I found in the wires once I did this.

Be prepared with connectors, electrical tape and some crimps if needed. If you can get your hands on a test light that would be best. Not a quick job, but if you're thorough you will find it. You should be able to just ground it to the car body and test for positive connections (or vice versa)

Carb cleaner works, but contact cleaner is best.
