Needing to replace the lock barrel and wondering if its basically a straight forward job - pop the barrel out and slot in the new one? I've not taken off the door panel to have a look yet so also wondering if I am going to have to drill out rivets to remove any inner door panels to get to the lock in order to remove it?

Another thing I need to look at is the door open warning light comes on although the door is shut properly. Where is the sensor for that or is there any way to simply disable it as it is getting a bit annoying

Also locking /door related - when I got the car the fob doesn't work - at the moment I am just assuming the batteries are just flat - if I stick in new batteries am I going to need to get the fob re-coded to work?

Dundee ! Nice city. I,ve been there! - some 35 yrs. ago though Guess alot have changed since then. About your car the barrel is straight forward. First remove the door panel, two small screws both sides near the top, pull the connector of the switches and the panel
can be lifted upwards. Now you can eighter take off the vindow frame or you can do it with the frame in place, it's a tight squees but it's doable.

Another thing I need to look at is the door open warning light comes on although the door is shut properly
The problem is a faulty micro switch in the door lock

Bit different than it was 35 years ago - not to much though. A lot less to take off than my fabia was anyway - sounds nice and easy.

Had a feeling it was the switch - looks like I will have to replace both o/s/f and n/s/f switches then as it is intermittent on both doors

    cheers

Morning. Some yrs. ago I found those switches on ebay, take a look because the dealer will only sell you the complete door lock ( with the switch) If I remember right the lock barrel will only come out together with the door handle. To be able to wiggle
the door handle out you have to remove the pushrod from it first, it,s kept in place of some kind of locking pin, maybe you can google up a picture of it ?

Had a look on ebay UK and could not find anything - prob best look on the german one later but can get a complete unit for about £30 as a direct replacement although coming from Hong Kong.

With any luck it is just a dodgy connection though but will see when i get round to whipping off the door cards next week or maybe just see if its possible to unplug the sensor so it doesn't send a signal at all. I did see somewhere (cant remeber where) if you disconnect the interior door lamps or something it cancels the signal .
