To get permanent 12V for cigarette lighter and aux sockets in cabin and in rear boot, do the following:
    - Open rear right panel in boot (use coin etc.). Not the one where is handle and behind is the tow bar grip. Might be left side for RHD vehicles?
    - Locate J807 (marked #3 in the image, it is the relay for power out let sockets)
    - Replace the relay with jumper wire made of two 4.8 mm abiko flat plugs. It connects terminal 30 directly to the pin supplying power socket fuses.
    - close the panel and store the relay in a safe place for reverse mod, if needed.

Note that the energy management cannot control the relay and power consumption anymore nor when the engine is running nor during standby. Using a mobile charger may not exhaust the battery, but a 50ltr cooler in boot surely does this. Reduces harmonics distortion when the kids DVD does not stop during refuelling and keeps your Tomtom GPS in fix, too.

Better solution (not tried) is to use delay relay like this (link). It holds the power for 20 mins, but probably could be tuned for longer times by experienced electronics hobbyist.

Credits for Motor-talk.de and ACF for finding this.

    Diecast,

thank you you very much. I'll certainly use this info to create a supply for a tracker. I will take some pics for those who are interested

Got the mentioned time relay. Works fine but there are few disadvantages:
    - it takes 6 mA idle, even when the relay is not activated. Haven't checked what is the normal idle current when the car is parked/locked.
(My external cig.lighter-USB adapter with blue LED takes 5 mA)
    - the case for the relay is larger than normal, and it does not fit to the socket without doing some surgery
    - the time is only 20mins, and the design is with 7FLITE25F2M6 microprocessor, so no easy tuning.

Compared to the relatively high price of the relay, I might stick into the abiko solution...

This is great information. Never had a car before where the auxiliary socket is powered from the ignition....... No charging of phones unless you're in the car, no tyre pump etc....

    Hi thanks for the info

I want to do the same thing and use this.

12V, 10A Adjustable Delay Timer Relay (Delay ON or OFF)

Any problems with battery drain, 6mA is not that much?

Don't think so, I have not used the time relay as it does not fit into the compartment (too much height).
Better to check that first before buying any relays.

Same as using USB adapter in centre console - with blue LED it takes 5 mA.
During our winter I try to avoid any excess drain to be sure.

I tried the relay after trimming it down and it doesn't work, it works on a bench with a power supply though so the relay is fine.

The wiring is the same too. No idea.

Did you ever physically try yours?

I am suprised audi doesn't have some sort of setting in the MMI to run on after power off. Pressing the stop button kills the engine and the ignition.
There is no intermediate power after the engine is on.

Finally got around to doing mine. No timer, just the link. Works fine, and worth it should you need to charge a phone/ torch etc. If you are worried about battery discharge, you could wire a switch across the terminals instead of a link, maybe hidden, so that you have the option of power whilst the car is locked up.

I did mine at the same time that I replaced the fuel flap actuator, but that's another topic!
