What are you basing this information on? I don't think there has been a high failure rate for 3 litre diesels with Stronic boxes. There will now be millions of cars with DSG boxes and some will fail over time by the law of averages.

Having had a word with some people including ex audi service, its more that there can be issues above the expected amount, servicing of box oil/cooling etc around 40k's is advised and given that a decent number of people seem to strike deals with car dealers on these issues lets you know germany is aware and simply wont recall or address issue as more cost effective to gamble on number of failures over retro fixes

Maybe they are only replacing a cheap sensor on the gearbox and charging you 1100usd for the privilege as replacing a gearbox foc so easily is bit strange. I hope you have a brand new SHINY gearbox on your car when you look underneath it. Ask them to show you the old one

For me it even seems possible, that Kuwait's high temperature may affect the gearbox's lifetime, maybe the gearbox was not designed to work permanently at this temperature conditions. It's possible, that this issue is well known by Audi, and in such cases, it's really far easier to replace the entire gearbox, and to keep the customer satisfaction for a goodwill price, than to try to keep the gearbox alive for a limited period.

Cars exported to these countries will be spec'd accordingly as regards cooling. The gearbox has its own heatexchanger coupled to the vehicle cooling. I dont think its a climate issue for the fault. But good luck with the NEW 'box.

Nowadays we are goin through the toughest weather condition... Temperature easily reaching 53 and 55 celsius.. I am not sure any cooling measure could survive such a harsh conditions

It doesnt stop the millions of cars on the roads in the middle east doing their job day after day. Cos fuel is that cheap, they get a hammering down the highways.
