Hi i just bought an old 1.8 T Passat and on the drive up the road the engine light came on. My local mechanic who was just leaving to go on holiday told me to come round and he will check the fault code.

It was a misfire and he said it needed a coil replaced and that it was fine to drive till he got back . Im no mechanic but looking at these I reckon it’s a Haynes 1 spanner job.

Can I switch the car on and unhook each coil to see which coil or coils are not working?

I noticed this on a YT for an audi and wondered I it’s the same for this Engine.

    Thanks in advance

    Marky

no, you must not remove a coil with the engine on, you will cause damage.
