Congrats! You'll love it, had one recently as a courtesy car and it just does everything well!

    Enjoy!

    Hi Eddcat,

Congratulations on your new BE Ultra. I'm awaiting an A6 Allroad delivery on the 01 Aug, could you expand a bit on how the dealer was for the delivery? Mine is being brought to work, but how much time etc did you spend checking things worked properly and so on.

Does anybody else have any key tips for me to check on a 2016 A6 Allroad on delivery - having not had a delivery before, i'm anticipating the driver to not want to hang around (do you have to give them a lift to the train station or anything..?) so want to make sure I pick up on any biggies before I sign off on it.

    thanks, Mike

Oh gosh it's been ages since I had a car delivered to work (25 year?). But here are a few thoughts - and by no means allroad specific.

Most important is an all round check - you have to spot stuff that is NOT covered by the warranty. You need to be absolutely clear that there are no dings or scratches on the wheels or bodywork - and do NOT feel embarrassed about spending considerable time checking for that. Once you sign it off then. It's down to you if you notice something.

Same goes for the interior - check that it is perfect.

Finally look at the mileage on the odometer - you are expecting delivery mileage which should be single figures, in my experience it's usually around 5 miles + or - 2. Depends on how much they did at factory and how much the Audi dealer technicians did after the PDI etc.
BUT if the mileage is high then question it. I'd get upset of it is over 10 or 12 miles as it probably means it was used to do a demo / test drive.

Beyonfd that you are into mechanical or electrical issues and that will be a warranty return so no big deal - you have 3 years.

Sounds like it might be driven from the dealer and not on a transporter, so that could be hundreds of miles. I drove about 500 miles to collect mine as I didn't want the driver ragging it up the motorway that far and not using different speeds/revs etc to help run it in. Plus there's the unavoidable potential for stonechips to glass and paint, particularly from a long motorway journey (in winter in my case). I did negotiate some other stuff as part of their advantage off not having to lose a driver for a day.

Check MPG is consistent with delivered miles. This might give you an overview of how it's been driven. Only worry if it's under 20 as it's either been ragged or has maybe sat in traffic jams without stop-start activating. You know the route so that'll help.

Also check that all the extras are physically there. My experience of the supplying dealer was poor. As well as forgetting to fuel it, they forgot to include the MMI cables which I remembered just when pulling off site. The car's tyre pressures were all about 10 PSI under expected pressures (car only spots differences between tyre pressures at the time, not relative to when settings were stored), so check those when cold too at the first opportunity.

Regardless of how clean the car is, washing it yourself as soon as possible will help you notice any blemishes.

Delivery drivers aren't paid a massive amount, so it'd be nice to offer the driver a lift to a convenient transport node beyond your local bus stop if necessary. Google maps or the travelline app are quite handy. It'll give you chance to listen to the car whilst giving the lift so that any questions can be answered and more importantly any additional points noted on the delivery paperwork. If you let them know that you plan to do this you'll be under less pressure from them when you're doing your fine toothcomb inspection. Some fleets won't be as picky as a personal driver which can colour the driver's idea of expected handover time.

    Enjoy it.

Thanks UKGroucho and Splash, both very useful advice.

I am anticipating it being driven for delivery from Camberley Audi which is 62 miles from my work. The car is a new two year lease on a really good deal, I'll type up the specs below. According to the paperwork, 100 miles of the 8000 mile annual contract limit is written-off for delivery, which I think is fair enough.

I will ensure that all of the non-warranty stuff is thoroughly checked and take the guy to the station for a check-drive. Following receipt, I'm going to spend a good while applying toughseal paint protection as this has always worked well for me in the past. I will also hard wire install my dashcam (removed from my current car) and DIY fit a GPS tracker. I'm really looking forward to it!

    Thanks,
