    so what has actually stripped. can you post a picture up ?
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    I'm just away from it at the minute. The inside of the bearing has stripped where the cv joint spline fits in (think I'm explaining this correctly!). The teeth on the spline are ok so assuming the torque bolt has loosened or never been tightened enough causing the inside of the bearing to strip, it's virtually smooth inside!

    theres no teeth on the bearing. the drive flange is pressed into the bearing and has teehh on the inside, and 5 bolts holes for the wheel to bolt onto, and the cv joint has teeth on the sticky out bit which engage with the teeth on the drive flange. sounds like you need a new one of these and a bearing.

    You're right again. It's the drive flange which has had its teeth stripped. I thought that came as part of the bearing kit but obviously not. I'll order one tomorrow. I'll post a photo of the damage shortly. Thanks.
