    Chaps,

As ever this place proves a haven of knowledge and I know this looks like war and peace but worth a read.

So, looking earlier in the week, as you do through threads @NickTyler mentioned on the '218 Fuel Economy' thread, "I had a 218 a s a courtesy car and was surprised that it did not really feel any slower or less powerful than my 272. What was noticeable though, the gear box seemed to have it's work cut out jumping up and down all over the place."

I responded saying that I had noticed this with mine over the past few days. The box just seemed to hold onto gears for longer the normal before changing up and would then just change back down for hardly any reason, it was indeed all over the place.

Then the very nice @srbsq7 popped up pointing me to a thread regarding the autotbox reset which is as follows....

    1. Press the start button once so ignition is on but don't start.
    2. Press the accelerator peddle down to the floor for 10 seconds.
    3. With your foot still pressed down press the start button to turn ignition off.
    4. Take your foot of the accelerator.
    5. Press the start button to turn ignition on and leave the car touching nothing for 5 minutes (for throttle preadaptation????)
    6. Start the car while touching nothing and then off for a test drive.

I have just carried this out and returned from a drive and bingo all is back to how it was a couple of weeks ago. The car is back to its super smooth self with silk like changers and changing up nice and early with no drama whatsoever.

Why has this happened???? God knows but I did have a 100 spirited strip in 'S' in the early hours last Friday week and I think this is when the issue started. Fuel economy has also suffered over the past two weeks with long term from new average dropping to sub 35mpg and no 40+ mpg trips which is not great.

So, Silver goes to @NickTyler for flagging up his thoughts and a massive thank you and GOLD to @srbsq7 for bringing the reset to my attention, I owe you a beer or two mate.

Just need to sort the adv key (had to mention it.....) and all is good.

Well for what it's worth I have noticed something similar and I have the 272. This does seem to happen only in efficiency mode though the gearing is a bit up and down at the slightest change in situation. But only in efficency. Comfort and auto are fine.
    Might try the reset

    Help

im starting to think my car has all the bugs

nearly 2 weeks ago was driving along doing about 55mph and sudden thought car sounds louder than normal and not as smooth looked at the speedo and said I was in 4th gear took foot off the throttle and still no change up a gear put foot back on throttle pulled the + paddle nothing then car seemed like it was loosing power it felt like I had just threw anchor out the window or some one had sudden hitch a very large trailer on the back I was having to put me foot down more and more to maintain the speed
so pulled up let car idle pulled away and was fine another ten mile and same again
so pulled up switch off engine and restarted
been fine since and done 500 mile since

not sure if was engine fault or gearbox but funny thing was no warning lights nothing came up on dash no lights what so ever to say a fault

another feeling was as if I'd lost 3 of the 6 cylinders

since that moment mind all working ok but

after reading the above gears hold longer mpg is down a little and keeps up and down the gears more just don't seem as smooth and feels every bit like above

when you have some thing go wrong you then often start to hear feel things that's not really there so just thought it was me being silly until reading above so thanks guys

was going to take car in and got to go in any way but know as I'm a old school mercanic that as no lights came up if they then plug in there tool there will be no error codes but as car not played up since there is nothing to find like my advance key fault and Audi connect only happen odd times you take it in and there is no fault as only fail odd times

will give the above a go thanks

Clogged DPF perhaps? Do you do lots of short journeys around town? If so take it for a good long blast along the motorway at high revs which should clear it. If not, I think Audi can do a "forced regen"?
MY17 SQ7, Sepang Blue, 22s, and lots of toys.
MY16 Passat Bluemotion GT, Reflex Silver, 19s, only a few toys.

I do odd town stuff but often gets a 60 mile blast down A roads and quite a few foot down overtakes so shouldn't be clogged up

No way a car with under 10k on the Odo should have any DPF issues. Unless the DPF itself has failed due to a structural fault or something.
