Has it been losing coolant? BKD's were known for porous ports but only right at the beginning of production, late 2003 early 2004.

    Thanks for your reply

Yes it has been losing coolant. Ive changed the egr cooler, coolant cap and still losing. Strangley enough it drops overnight.

I also had the turbo recon and am getting underboost so dont know if its related

Is there a way to check the head without removing it??

Yes, position the engine so the inlet valves are shut and place a pressure tester onto the coolant bottle and leave it at 1Bar overnight, then check to see if there is water behind the valves.

Ok kool tks ill do that.

On another note while ive got you, as mentioned ive got the p0299 underboost code after installing a new/reco turbo.
So far changed : MAF, MAP, EGR cooler, EGR valve cleaned and vacuum checked, Turbo actuator new and tested, Vacuum lines hold vacuum. Ive visually checked the intake pipes and they seem ok, yet to do boost leak test.

1st and 2nd gear pulls ok (not great) and then in 3rd hits limp mode at higher rpm, no engine light. If i drive it in limp mode it pulls like crap up until 2000rpm then for a brief second it pulls and then backs of again - when it backs off a whine, spool sound is heard, as if all the pressure that was built gets pushed out somewhere.

To add - my tandem pump was leaking where it connects to the head
so i just changed the gasket, no more leaks but maybe internally an issue. I dont know how or if its related with vacuum or what not.

Apologise for the lengthy post just need a point in the right direction.

    Tnks
