    I have been told that you can fit a hatch from a mk5 golf to a mk4 gti , is it possible as i have been informed it is a stright swap apart from some electrics ???.

    my car is a 2003 5 door V5

    go to ggogle and type ''golf mk4 rear'' and golf mk5 rear . look at images, find 2 rear shots and see the different shape of the tailgates.i did and i dont think one will fit the other.
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    I would say the same but he was adament and the more i look at the line of the lights on the mk 5 the more it looks like the edge of the mk 4 hatch ?

    look at the bottom corners, the 5 is much more rounded. when vw re design a car they go the whole hog, not just some facelift lights and a badge, they change the lot.
    not saying its not the same because i have never tried the swop, but chances are slim.
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    Totally different.

    You'd need new rear quarters, new rear bumper, new rear lights.

    Then you'd have the lovely task of working out how to make it shut and so on.

    Probably easier to cut 'n' shut.
