There is a bewildering array of racks fitted to the PQ35 platform from the various different factories. Your car is likely to have a Generation 2 rack and to use the latest Gen3 revision you would need a conversion harness, VW part number 1K2 971 111 AJ which retails at £103.16. Whichever rack was fitted from the factory, if you fit a VAG exchange rack it will be part number 1K2 423 055 KX which is £1061.04.

From what I can tell, GEN1 was used up until VIN TMBUF21Z678087783 for the typical UK spec Vrchlabi factory production so around July 2007 production then it changed to what I think was GEN2 for what looks like about six weeks at VIN TMBUF21Z688006001 and then to GEN3, but to me it is all academic as the only way I will fix my customers cars is by fitting either genuine VAG exchange rack 1K2 423 055 KX or ZF. Using a second hand rack can be a bewildering experience, there are so many part number changes it can be very confusing but really all that matters is the plug matches and there is a conversion cable for GEN1/2 to GEN3.

These are just some of the numbers 1K2 423 055, B, C, D, E, F, G, H J, K or now the exchange unit 1K2 423 055 KX or from Bosch since they absorbed ZF under number K S01 000 747 and they list this as replacing the following VAG numbers

    1K2 423 055 JX

Yes, looks like GEN2 so you would need the adapter harness for GEN3. How much and details of those people?

They aren't genuine, genuine exchange is £1061.04 inc VAT plus £103.16 for the harness adapter, Bosch (whose picture they have used and doctored) are around £700.
