Blue bit is the egr valve, green the throttle valve. If your car is like this, as Crasher's post indicates, then yes.

And cheaper! Almost a DIY job if you have any mechanical skills (I don't)

I've just bought a 2011 A3 2.0 170 quattro & it's just come up with an EGR error (engine code CFGB with EGR down the back of the engine). Fault code: P0403 00 (096)

If seems to be an intermittent problem, went into limp mode but is OK when engine is restarted; is it worth removing the valve & trying to clean it ?

Does the quattro transfer box make a difficult job even more difficult ?

If I need a new valve, is it worth considering any of the numerous after-market valves out there, or are they all of unknown quality ? It's not a job I'd want to do twice !

On a 4 Motion or quattro it is an appalling job as the transfer box gets right in the way, the only way we have found we can do them is to drop the subframe, remove the drive shaft, transfer box and DPF; then you can get at the valve. There is no way I will fit anything other than a genuine 03L 131 512 DQ so that if it fails within two years (not unknown) I can throw it at the appropriate VAG dealer and they can bill VAG UK for the pleasure. Personally I don’t do a lot of heavy work like this anymore but we were a mechanic down a couple of weeks back and I had to do one on a FWD SUPERB and it nearly floored me...
