Awful.................... behind the turbo and part of the cooler. Stupid, expensive design change. 4-5 hours labour at a garage (had my changed, and they were not happy at all but it did reveal a few other bits and pieces that they changed at the same time which would have been MOT failures).

An absolute **** to do, a good 4 hours work, DPF off and drive shaft out. The 1.6 CRTDI unit is more prone to problems than the 2 litre, we do them at least 10:1 to the 2 litre.

I must admit that mine started playing up by 12K. I stupidly cleared the fault codes or it might have been done under warranty. No idea how much it cost as I had a service and brakes done at the same time which came to £1150 in total!

Ooops, forgot to ask if it was early 2011 or late 2011 as that is when they changed the position. Early 2011 and it is right at the front of the engine attached to the throttle body and is a simple job. If it is late 2011 (mine is Sept) then it is as shown in the picture (the shiny flat bit next to the turbo).

We are just doing a 10 plate B chassis 2 litre A3 cam belt and the EGR is around the back as per picture.

Interesting; I looked on the Audi parts catalogue to try and find the egr valve when I was having problems and that said that it changed in 2011. Just went to check and am now getting a 404 error! Mine is a 61 plate.

CFFA (136), CFFB (140), CFGB (170) and CLJA(140) which are EU5+ (I think) have the combined unit across the back of the engine and the CBAA (136), CBAB (140) and CBBB (170) EU5 uses the separate cooler and valve.

Yes, the cooler is tubular around the back and the valve is between the V157 manifold flap and the manifold itself, this is a much more reliable and easier to service system
