Service intervals

Hi, I recently bought an a3 ( about 3 months ago) and it had a service from the garage when I bought it. Since then ive covered less than 5000 miles yet my car says it's due a service in about 500 miles, surely this can't be right? Or have they just forgotten to reset the service indicator? I had a mk5 golf previously to the a3 and it has the service indicator as well but it was usually after roughly 10k so I'm a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated!

likely that the last garage didn't reset it and the last service was out of sync with the indicator. depends on the age but on some of the 2004 / 2005 VW's I've had you could reset it back to 10k by a combination of ignition key and clock / mileage reset buttons on the dash binnacle. best bet is to reset the interval using VCDS to realign the indicator with actual time and mileage since the last service though. ggogle for the ignition key / button method to see if it'll work on your car and at least clear the message.
